MuayThai Kickboxing is a hard martial art and the national sport of Thailand. It has been around for centuries and was origninally developed as defense against enemy nations and has since become known for being simple and extremely effective. Known internationally as the “King of the Ring”, it has historically beaten and destroyed challengers from kickboxing, karate, kung fu and other striking arts. It is often referred to as the “Art of Eight Limbs” because it makes use of punches, kicks, elbow, and knee strikes. Techniques taught are learned quickly and are able to be used in a short amount of time. Muay Thai provides stress relief, strength, cardiovascular fitness, self-defense and it is extremely fun!
Officially, we (Pittsburgh MuayThai) are Khaay Muay Sit-Kangmongkorn to honor our Kru Yai Matee "Kangmongkorn" Jedeepitak. Kangmongkorn translates to Dragon Leg, the nickname given to Matee by a sportswriter after seeing him at Lumpinee. The writer coined the name by combining Matee's kicking prowess with the hallmark Dragon Jars of Ratchaburi (Matee's hometown). Kru Matee instructs at Warrior Way in Detroit, but we have the unique honor of training directly under him. The Pittsburgh trainers are Stephen Strotmeyer and Mark DeLuca, with assistant trainers Ben Case and Marcus Fisher
